August was a very busy month for me and the club. I had a trip up to lake Chautauqua. I would highly recommend a little trip there. It's not that far and it is just beautiful. As for the club we had the show at the Monongahela River, Rail & Transportation museum. We raffled off a Pennsylvania starter set to make a little money for the club. We collected $177, minus $73, for a profit of $103. Barrie Baker was the lucky winner of the train and he donated the train back to the club. We thank you Barrie, for the donation, and we’ll raffle the train at the Castle Shannon train show the end of October. This time the raffle will be total profit for the club. (Please see photos of the show)
In August we also had the PGRS family picnic at the Magri home. The food was great, and I think we could have had a second picnic with all the food. They say that Emily Post was the host with the most, but we have our own host with the most, and it is Jackie. Thank you Frank & Jackie for a great time and for hosting the picnic at your lovely home. Thanks also for donating the “Bachmann Big Haulers” starter train set which will be used in a raffle at the TCA National Convention in Pittsburgh next year. Your president was the lucky winner of the 50/50 raffle and used his winning to help defray some of the cost the food for our family picnic.
The PGRS has another busy month scheduled with our regular meeting to be hosted by Clark Kemmerer and Alice Angelo at their home, 228 North Joslyn Drive, Pittsburgh, Pa 15235, Saturday, September 17, 1:00 to? Clark & Alice are asking our members to bring goodies for our meal in the following categories: A-F Main dish, G-P Dessert, Q-Z Snack or salad. Please use the first letter of your last name to know what category you fall in. If you have a favorite dish and it doesn’t fall in the group that you’re in that’s OK too. Just let Clark & Alice know what you will be bringing and how many are coming by September 14. The Kemmerer’s phone number is (412)795- 0524 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org
I will not be at the September meeting. Alycefaye and Tina will be running the meeting for me. My cousin is celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in Ohio and I can’t be both places, and it’s a once in a life time thing. I know you will all have a good time with Clark & Alice. They are very good hosts.
The end of September we have the bus/train trip down to Elkins, WV. We will ride the “New Tygart Flyer," take a ride up to Bald Knob on the “Cass Scenic Railroad”, and do many other things we have planned.
Please save the end of October for the “Castle Shannon Train show." I will have all the details for the show in the October newsletter. This is a one day show on Sunday and with setup on Saturday. We will need all the volunteers we can get for the show, selling raffle tickets, and the take down after the show on Sunday.
