Harlansburg Station, intersection of Rt 19N
and Rt 108 (724) 652 9002. Phone for Hours. Jean and I toured
this in August . The building replicates a PRR station of the
early 20th century. Along the platforms are Pennsy
heavy and light weight passenger cars. In one of the cars is a
nice HO layout. The other cars and the station are filled with
interesting exhibits and models of trains and other forms of
transportation. There is an admission charge.

Observations
First, the writer is neither pro or con on
the fracking issue. As a 70+ year train watcher he is however
impressed with the increase in traffic from this source on the
local Wheeling and Lake Erie. On Sept 26 I observed an
Eastbound Train along Rt 50 with 2, 6axle locomotives, about 40
“Rail Whale” tank cars and 2 similar locos on the rear end. An
impressive train!
A contest. Go back a few decades . Remember
when you read the Saturday Evening Post or the National
Geographic. Ads or watched freight trains at crossings. Many
railroads had advertising slogans in their ads or on their cars.
Do you remember any of these?. Answers next time.
