August and the
summer are going by so fast. Before we know it weíll be wishing
each other Seasonís Greetings.
The club has
another busy month in August; we have the PGRS family picnic
scheduled for Saturday, August 19, 2:00pm. Alycefaye Stewart
and Joe Welling are our hosts for the picnic at the Stewart's
home. The address is 7 Deerfield Drive, Greensburg, Pa 15601.
They will provide the hamburgers, pulled pork, haluski and soft
drinks. Alycefaye and Joe are asking our members to help fill
out the menu with a side of your choice by bring goodies for our
meal in the following categories: A-F Main dish, G-P Dessert,
Q-Z Snack or salad. Please use the first letter of your last
name to know what category you fall in. If you have a favorite
dish and it doesnít fall in the group that youíre in thatís OK
too. Just let Alycefaye and Joe know by
Aug 14 what you will be bringing
and how many are coming. Phone is
(724)837-5449 or e-mail
The other event
we have for the month of August is the show at the Monongahela
River, Rail & Transportation Museum,
August 11-13. This goes along
with the National Pike Steam, Gas & Horse Association's 37th
annual fall show. I need your help in planning the set up of
our display at the museum. I need to know what day would be best
for our members to volunteer and set up the display. For set
up we're looking at going out on Wednesday, August 9, or
Friday, August 11. Please let
me know which day fits your schedule the best for you to
volunteer to help set up. We will do the set up on the day we
have the most volunteers.
We will also need
volunteers to work the show Saturday, August 12th ,
and Sunday, August 13th . We are not going to have
a raffle at this show after considering the low attendance and
fear that we may not recover the cost of the train.
Saturday 12th I will
not be able to help out with the show as this is the Baggus
annual family reunion which runs all day. If you can help please
let me know when, and I can start making up a work schedule for
the show. The plan is to let the display up for the museum to
use, but we will have to schedule a time for take down and
packing the trailer before our next show at the Castle Shannon
Train show which is
Sunday, October 29. This we can
talk about at the family picnic and pick out what work the best
and schedule a date and time.
Iím very happy to
report that our trip to Gettysburg has 42 people signed up, and
we still have room on the bus for ten more. I know some people
put things off until the last minute, but just as a reminder,
the dead line for making a reservation and final payment is
August 15. This year we have
made arrangements for a second pick up point at the Monroeville
Mall, Monroeville, PA, for our people from that side of town.
If you have any questions please call Keith Baggus
(412)276-1236 or e-mail;
and Iíll try to answer them.
Please mark your
calendar: Ken Maglietta has volunteered to host a meeting at
his home October 21st noon to??? I will have all the
information on this meeting in the up coming newsletter. I'm
still working on the details with Ken, but save the date.
Thank you Dan
Cinowalt & Lorraine Rehtorik for hosting our July meeting. The
food was great. I think the rain kept some of our members away
but it didnít stop Dan from running his trains. Dan has built
some trestles and bridges on his layout that are a must see. He
used angle iron from old bed frames to make his bridge and
welded them all together. Dan's bridges are the strongest Iíve
ever seen built for a garden railway. Please see photos of the
meeting. Thank you again Dan and Lorraine for a great time.
