Railway Society Minutes for June 18, 2016
The meeting was called to order at 12:40 by
President Keith Baggus. 29 members were in attendance.
was presented about the TCA 2017(week long) National Convention in
Pittsburgh, Pa. (in the old Hilton Hotel, downtown). Keith received
a formal letter inviting us to do a 24’ X 24’ display at the
convention. They showed interest in having members organize a train
tour of some of the club member’s layouts. Five members have come
forward to volunteer their layouts. Ideas are needed and volunteers
to chair the organization of these event. Brownsville Museum has
given us their basement for the use of setting up our display, ahead
of time, for the TCA Convention for a test run to work out any
problems. More information will be in future newsletters. Parking
will be on our own dime for the convention, so plan ahead…take the
“T”, a bus, the trolley or car pool from an outlying area if you
don’t want to fight the parking.
Bill Patterson has graciously donated all his
train buildings to the PGRS. Bill is downsizing and moving, so all
his train, tracks and equipment are for sale. See sales information
in our newsletter. Our next meeting will be at Bill’s home. His last
train run will be at our meeting on July 16 starting at noon @ 246
Regency Park Place, Bethel Park, Pa. 15102 (412-833-2220). Bill is
catering the food for the meeting but he requested for you to bring
your bathing suit or just dangle your feet in his pool. Let us make
it a day to remember…Contact Bill to give him a count on how many
members will be attending.
We will not be doing the Greenburg Show this
summer. They had enough venders to fill up the hall. Discussion was
held about ways to encourage Greenburg to fit us into the show. Some
members felt we should look to other events to demonstrate our
trains. Jackie Magri, our Greenburg Show person, is working on the
fall show application for us. Keep your fingers crossed….Our train
layout is presently on display in the Monongahela River, Rail &
Transportation Museum, Brownsville. Our next show will be there on
August 13-14 from 10: Am to 4: PM. Because it is already set up we
will not need to go down ahead of time on Friday…YAH!!!
The Elkins Train Trip (Sept. 30- Oct. 1) as of
JUNE 18TH had 33 people paid. There is still time to
sign up. It is a great historical train trip (see the details in our
newsletter) or contact Keith Baggus for information 412-276-1236 or
The Christmas Party @ The Willows has been
cancelled by the owner. He sold the restaurant/ motel and the new
owner will be doing an extensive renovation that will not be done in
time for our party. We are looking for another venue for 50 people
for the first Saturday in December (3rd). If you have an
idea contact Keith Baggus.
New carpet was purchased. Six, 8’ X 12’ bound
green carpets. This will enable us to do any size layout up to and
including the 24’ X24’ needed for the TCA Convention. It was decided
by the members that the money should come out of the trailer fund to
pay for the carpet.
A motion was made by Tina Weimer and Seconded
by Dave Bodnar and unanimously passed by those in attendance that
new electronics for the trains should be purchased by the club.
Dave Bodnar informed the club that a Harry
Potter train display (O-scale) was given to Children’s Hospital in
Pittsburgh. It is on the second floor. Ours is on the third floor.
According to Dave the layout is “GREAT”…take time and visit it…
The 50/50 was won by Alycefaye Stewart and her
winnings were donated back to the club.
Mark and Teresa Demyan, our hosts, outdid
themselves with a train theme of food and table settings. Her Fairy
Gardens set within the train layout were delightful and Mark’s
trains meandering through out the garden edge completed the visual
diorama. Thank you again for opening your home to our club.
A motion was made by Bill Fallecker and
seconded by Burt Mangold to end the meeting.
