For our May meeting we did a show at the Masonic Lodge in
Beallsville on May 17-18, like last year this was part of the
National Road Festival, they have it the third weekend of May
every year. The attendance was down from last year due to the
cold weather and, with all the rain. I would like to thank all
of our member who came out and helped work the show, I have not
listed the name of everyone because I was not there for the
entire show, and donít want to take a chance and miss someone,
you all know who you are that came out and helped. Thank you so
very much for volunteering and all that you have done. I
always say we need all the help we can get when doing a show
from the setting up the display, the running of the train though
out the show, answering questions, and last the take down the
display, and packing the trailer. (Please check out the photo
of the display) I think we had a great display for the show. I
also want to say a special thank you to Don Goodwin for taking
charge on Sunday and seeing that
everything got done in my absence. I was at Rylie's dance
on Sunday, it was very long, and
made for a long day.
We raffled off a Lionel G-Gauge train set (The Polar Express)
with working head light and authentic train whistle and bell to
help defray the cost of the show and make a little money for the
club. The total income from the raffle was $146.25 and I donít
know where the 25 cents came from, because we were selling the
tickets for $3 each or two for $5 just like last year. I would
like to say thank you to Alycefaye Stewart for donating the
train set to us in memory of Paul Stewart. The lucky winner of
the train was Cole Goodwin the grandson of Don Goodwin who came
down to help his grandpa with the take down of the display. Don
had paid his grandson for help by buying him a ticket for the
train set, Cole only had one ticket in the box and won.
Congratulations Cole and thank you for volunteering to help us
out. I also would like to say thank you to Debra, and other
members of the Goodwin family who came down and helped with the
take down, and packing the trailer.
Thank you to Dave Bodnar for the two sound systems he built for
the club. One is in a stock car and has train sounds, and the
second one has speakers that can be stuck in a building or
hidden in the display with animal sounds on it, He tells me that
the sound can be changed any time we want or update if we are
doing a special display, each has a box with four button that
kids can push to activate different sounds, and the adults were
having a good time pushing the button too, but weíre all just
kids at heart. Dave also did his magic on the Mickey and Donald
hand car and now it will chase the train and slow up before it
catches the train. We had one person at the show say he thought
it would be funnier to have the train chasing Mickey and
Donald, and they would be trying to get away from the train like
in the old time movies. I told him we have to look in to it, and
see what could be done or not. The costs for the parts for the
two sound units, and the hand car was $154, thank you again Dave
for all the work you do for the club.
Check out the signs Dave build and we used for this show itís
one of those fancy signs that scrolls a messages across a
screen. We advertised our raffle on it during the show.
We had one person renew his membership at the show welcome back
Daniel Wood and family of Brownsville. The Lodge was very happy
with our display and have given us and open invitation to come
back again next year, and a big thank you from them to the PGRS
for doing the display again this year and help to celebrate the
National Road Festival.

Iíve checked with Jackie Magri to see if she had heard anything
about the Greenbergís Train show in July, and she has not, and
said she would call me as soon as she hears from the Greenbergís
people. I was thinking we should hear something the beginning of
June, and before our next meeting.
