Well, it’s the start of a new year and I’m hoping that 2013 will be a fun
one for all the member of the Pittsburgh Garden Railway Society.
If you missed the wonderful Christmas dinner that Clark and
Alice hosted for us, check out the pictures in the Photossection of
A little update on the December election of officers:

as our new secretary)
Ann Celento returns as our Treasurer.
Big thanks to all these people for giving their time to help make our
club work for all of us!!!
And please, if any of them asks for assistance please help out. The more helping
hands, the lighter the load and easier the task.
Jan Vogt has agreed to be membership chairperson, Alycefaye Stewart will
"Idea person" and coordinator of themes for shows, Jackie Magri
will be coordinating our effort on getting back in with the
Greenberg Train show, and Dave Bodnar will be in charge of our
At the February meeting we will plan for the year and have a covered dish
dinner. For details on the meeting please check out the notices
sent on Sunday the 10th (or click
here). We already have the Stewarts hosting our April
meeting on the 20th. We will be helping them
rebuild and clean up their railroad for an upcoming garden show.
The Hartmans will be hosting the August meeting, the P.G.R.S.
Family Picnic, on the 24th. In December our Christmas
banquet and election of officers will be on the 7th at Peters
Place, 1199 Washington Pike, Bridgeville, Pa 15017.
something special planned for all our young at heart, a ride on
the Polar Express on December 14-15. I will have all the details for
the trip at the planning meeting. It’s looking like the month of
December could be a busy one.
Dick Fornwalt has a very
interesting and unique idea for the club's consideration. If any
of our members have a month they would like to host, let me know
and I can put it on the calendar before our planning meeting and
lock that month it in for you.
In the world of trains there are three things you may want to mark on
your calendar for this year.
The first is the East Coast
Large Scale Train Show in York, Pa. The dates for the show are March
22-23, 2013, Friday 9:00am to 6:00 pm and Saturday 9:00am to
4:00pm. The two day admission is $18 for adults and children under 12
are free. A one day admission is $10.00 . Location is the York Fairgrounds, Memorial
East, 334 Carlisle Ave., York, PA, 17404. For more information go
The second is the 29th National Garden Railway
Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio, June 5-9, 2013. There are
so many activities listed for the convention that if you are
interested it is best for you to go to
http://ngrc2013.com. If any of members go to these
shows I hope we can get them to write something for our newsletter
and take some photos. Maybe we can also put together a car pool
or two for the trips.
Lastly, the Bridgeville area Historical Society will host George
Gula from the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum March 26, 2013, 7:30pm
at Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department, Commercial Street,
Bridgeville, Pa. He will be giving a talk on trolleys in Western
Pennsylvania called “Three Car Checks for a Quarter”.
In closing, I think we’ll find 2013 to be a very interesting year.
We’ll be doing some new things and some old favorites, but if you
don’t come to our planning meeting and let us know what your
favorite is, it may not make it on the calendar this year. I’m
hoping for a good turnout in February and that
the weather will cooperate with us.
