May this year be the best of your life, may you find happiness and may you be surrounded by the love of family and friends. Happy New Year! Also may 2017 be the best in the history of the PGRS.
We had a great turnout for our Christmas dinner at Jaden’s where we had an all you can eat buffet. A big Thank You from all of us to Tina Weimer, Alycefaye Stewart, Jackie Magri, and Bob & Carol Gettemy for all their hard work to make our Christmas dinner a big success. I can’t forget saying thank you to Bill Patterson for his stories. They were just what we needed to top off the night.
This year at the Christmas party we honored the following members. John & Tina Weimer with five year pins, Gene & Caryll Link, Jim & Carol Schwarz with ten year pins, Don & Polly Walter with fifteen year pins, and Al & Shirley Hartman, Richard & Ruth Trudel with twenty year pins. Let us all take a minute to congratulation them and celebrate their many years of service.
The open house that we did with the Monongahela River, Rail & Transportation Museum was very poorly attended. The ice storm on Saturday and the Steelers’ game on Sunday kept people away. (Please see photos of our display)
Our first meeting of the year is our annual planning meeting schedule for January 21, 1pm-4pm, at the Carnegie United Methodist Church, 415 Washington Avenue, Carnegie, Pa 15106. We are looking for ideas and people to host meeting in the coming years. If anyone would like to host a monthly meeting or have a special month they would like to host, please let me know before the meeting and we’ll get it on the calendar. As always we are looking for ideas to help making this an extra special year for the club, so please share your thoughts and ideas. If we did something in the past that you really enjoyed and would like to do again please let us know.
For the 2017 calendar the club has been asked back to do the Monongahela River, Rail & Transportation Museum in May for the Pike or National Road Festival, and in October to the Castle Shannon Train show. The club is still trying to work out some details and get information on the TCA convention this June.
Now that we have the new trailer and have purchased a number of other things a suggestion was make that we take the money that we raise from the 50/50 raffle and set it aside to be used for door prizes at the Christmas party. We will need to have a vote on this if we are going to change back to what we have done in the past.
I have started looking into a train trips for the year, but don’t have anything firm yet. I have some ideas but it is too early in the year to get any prices. One of my ideas is going down to Cumberland, Maryland, ride the “Western Maryland Scenic Railroad” or the “Potomac Eagle” or do both. The other one is to take a trip to Amish country in Ohio and the “Age of steam roundhouse” or a day trip to Titusville to ride the “Oil creek & Titusville Railroad." If anyone has any other trips they would like me to look into please let me know but keep in mind that we need to focus on nearby railroad trips to keep the cost down.
The officers for the club this year are Keith Baggus-President, Donald Goodwin-Vice president, Tina Weimer- Treasurer, and Alycefaye Stewart –Secretary. Please help them whenever you can in the coming year and thank you for serving.
Just a reminder that PGRS dues are due for 2017 by January 31, if you have not sent them in, please do so and save us the cost of sending you a reminder.
In closing I have received word about Ed Celento. Ed was in the hospital over the holidays and is back home now. Let’s send him cards to brighten his day and let him know we are thinking of him.
